Lowball Quotes for Pet Transport

Hey everyone, Just wanted to talk for a minute about a courier service I subscribe  to as a provider (  www.Citizenshipper.com   ) and mention something that I think is important for anyone considering shipping a family pet.  In tough economic times we all seek to be careful of how we spend, and with good reason.  With that said we still have to seek a balance of our priorities in all we do.  We still seek the highest quality for the money we need to spend.

In a general sense, typical courier rates range from around $1.00 - $3.00 per mile.  Now please keep in mind that every situation is different and some thought should go into providing a service quote.

You can take a look at my website for more information, http://www.courier.aoinvestment.com/cost

As your courier puts a quote together, they will consider mileage, fuel, hours of work, criticality, and a host of other things in order to provide a meaningful quote for a top notch service..

Mileage rates are calculated by dividing the invoice amount for the service by the number of miles for the trip.

For example if the trip is 459 miles from point to point and the quoted price is $490.00.
$490.00 / 456 miles  = about $1.07/Mile

Therefore. . .If you see a quote that comes in at $250.00 for the same trip you find the per mile cost to be:
$250.00 / 456miles  =  about $0.54 Per Mile. This is a typical CARGO RATE folks.  You know, like over the road trucking. . .

I am not trying to be funny here but in the sum of my own experience, you get what you pay for.

You will undoubtedly find some nice folks out there doing transport at fractional costs but they will have to stay BUSY and I MEAN BUSY, to do so and still stay afloat from a business standpoint.  If I had a quote come in exceptionally low I would ask myself can I have my cake and eat it too in this?  I guess what I'm saying here is if the quote comes in very low, don't be afraid to start asking pointed questions.

Keep asking them until you are satisfied that you are going to get the quality you deserve.  You don't want to find out that you didn't get the level of service you expected AFTER something has gone wrong.

If you are shipping a pet . . . . please  . . . keep this in mind then make your decision with the best information available according to your individual situation.

This is a life we are talking about after all.

Happy motoring everyone. Be Safe and have a great day!

What the other guy might do

This is just one more example of what could put your life at risk on the road.  Why oh why do these folks not go to a track to do this stuff?

This is the blurb that caught my eye this morning.

"Oregon State cornerback Malcolm Marable has been suspended indefinitely by the Beavers after he was cited for driving 104 mph on Interstate 5"

It's just a couple of lines here: http://www.statesmanjournal.com

I find myself asking just what is it, that makes someone think they are qualified to drive a vehicle at those speeds with innocent motorist around them.  Do they not get that they could KILL someone by deciding what they want to do is acceptable?  Were they an F-18 pilot previously?  And did they fly it on the roads?  The point being that there isn't a way to get qualified to do this.

I guess what I'm getting at here is awareness. You as a responsible driver will probably not do anything crazy today,

But someone else might.

Just Say No to Texting

Happy Ash Wednesday everyone.

Just wanted to mention something I occasionally see on the road that scares the absolute bejeebers out of me every time. . .   Drivers that text while they drive.  And if you are reading this while you are driving, quit it!
A number of states already have laws that make texting while driving a crime.  More are following suit but it's a slow process.  Florida and Alabama are wrestling with ways to deal with texting while driving and I hope they put some real teeth into curbing the practice by the motorist there.  I hope Virginia makes this a primary offense soon as well.  Anything else is just plain nuts.

There. . . I said it. . . Texting while driving is nuts!!

No.  Seriously. . . It is.

Happy motoring everyone. Be Safe and have a great day!

Gas Prices to rise. . . Maybe

The weather is looking much better today and we are back up and running.

There is some buzz about Gas prices on the rise.  There are even dark and dire predictions of prices reaching $5.00 by summer.

For example, Cincinnati.com reports today:
The Iranian situation brought many predictions over the weekend that U.S. gas prices would hit $5 a gallon this summer. But one of the most respected oil analysts – Tom Kloza of OPIS – called those predictions “nonsense.”
“You may indeed have to pay $5 gal if you buy your summer gasoline on a tropical island, Martha’s Vineyard, or one of the tonier suburbs of New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles,” Kloza wrote on his blog, Speaking of Oil. “But the chances of nationwide gasoline averages approaching $5 a gallon are about as good as having the Spice Girls perform a tribute to Demi Moore at the Oscars.”
